Apple today marked a major milestone in its artificial intelligence push, confirming the rollout timeline and showcasing the full capabilities of Siri AI, the completely rebuilt version of its long-standing voice assistant.
Announced at WWDC in June and given center stage at today’s “Surprise and Shine” event under new CEO John Ternus, Siri AI is powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence.
Apple describes it as “an entirely new version of Siri” that is profoundly more capable, conversational, and personal.
Siri AI Launch Date and Availability
Siri AI begins rolling out in English beta on Monday, September 14, 2026, alongside iOS 27 and macOS 27. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish will follow in October.
Some advanced, compute-heavy features will have daily usage limits during the beta period. Broader Apple Intelligence language support expands to 16 languages with the new operating systems.
The feature requires compatible hardware, primarily iPhone 15 Pro and later models (with the strongest on-device performance on the new iPhone 18 Pro series powered by the A20 Pro chip), M1 and later iPads and Macs, select Apple Watches when paired with a supported iPhone, and Apple Vision Pro.
Availability will be limited or delayed in certain regions, including initial restrictions in the European Union due to regulatory requirements under the Digital Markets Act.
Key Features of Siri AI
Siri AI represents a ground-up rebuild rather than incremental improvements. Here are the standout capabilities highlighted by Apple:
- Deep personal context and cross-app intelligence: Siri can search messages, emails, photos, calendars, and other apps to surface relevant information.
- It understands what’s currently on your screen and can take actions across both first- and third-party apps (Apple claims seamless integration with more than 300,000 apps).
- Users can ask it to draft an email in Outlook, find a homework assignment in Notability, or add a restaurant recommendation from a conversation into a travel app.
- Dedicated Siri AI app: A standalone app that stores conversation history and syncs privately via iCloud across devices. Users can revisit past chats or start new ones in a familiar chatbot-style interface.
- Visual Intelligence and Siri Camera mode: Point the camera at something (or analyze on-screen content) and ask questions or trigger actions.
- Examples include generating a recipe from ingredients, extracting calendar events from a poster, getting nutritional information about a meal, or splitting a bill with Apple Cash.
- More natural conversations and expressive voices: Siri is significantly more conversational with better follow-up understanding.
- On supported devices, users can customize voice pace, expressiveness, accent, and gender with fine-tuned controls. Dictation has also improved, automatically handling punctuation, capitalization, and formatting.
- Writing and productivity tools: System-wide writing assistance lets users generate or edit text almost anywhere they type. Siri can also create complex Shortcuts simply by describing the desired automation in natural language.
- Siri Recap and ambient features: Using ambient listening (with strong privacy controls—no long-term audio storage and end-to-end encryption), Siri can generate high-level summaries, highlights, and quotes from conversations. The feature can be toggled on or off.
Apple emphasizes that privacy remains central. Requests are processed on-device whenever possible or through Private Cloud Compute, where personal data is neither stored nor accessible to Apple.
Hardware Synergy
The new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, along with the foldable iPhone Duo, were designed with Siri AI and on-device intelligence in mind.
The A20 Pro chip delivers significantly more Neural Engine performance and improved thermal management, enabling larger models to run locally for longer periods.

Apple executives said during the event, noting that users already make more than 2.5 billion Siri requests every day.
